Wherein I'm Building a Portfolio System, starting with an Online CV.
Introduction
In today's digital age, where personal brand is as important as professional skills, having a dynamic and easily manageable portfolio has become a necessity. This is why I am developing a Portfolio System that not only acts as a showcase of your work but also links your portfolio, CV and/or Resumé together. This makes the process of updating and managing them simpler. Think of it as a portfolio that evolves with your career.
The Concept of a Linked Portfolio, CV, and Resumé
The first step towards building this system is understanding the concept of a linked portfolio, CV, and resumé. Traditionally, these three are typically maintained as separate entities, each needing its own time and effort for updates. However, as we maximize the power of software available to us — many of them we can use for free— in this new system, all three can easily be interconnected. When you update one, the other two automatically reflect the changes. This keeps your professional profile consistent across all platforms and saves you valuable time.
The Growth Aspect of the Portfolio
The second critical aspect is the growth element of the portfolio. Unlike static portfolios that remain the same until manually updated, this portfolio grows with you. How? When you use the same software for your dashboard for project management, then as you’re building assets and managing deliverables whilst working on the project, the output becomes your portfolio piece, which you can then publish easily, linking it to the database you’ve set up in your Portfolio System.
Having a centralized database with a dashboard that will give you an overview of projects you’re working on, documentation on past and present projects, and an overview of your online presence, specifically your website, portfolio, and CV, will help ensure that your portfolio always showcases your most up-to-date professional image, making it a living, breathing representation of your career journey.
Simplified Management and Updates
Lastly, the biggest advantage of this system is its simplified management and update process. With traditional methods, updating your CV, resume, and portfolio was a daunting task that most professionals dreaded.
With new profiles and job boards and new platforms being created, without an organized system, uploading images, videos, creating new case studies and updating your portfolio, including old works, revamping your website and changing overall design can really become tedious if done separately and manually.
However, by building a portfolio system, using the power of linked database, updates can be as simple as a click of a button, and through automatic updates via linked data, it's possible. This can save time and the more seamless the integration, it helps ensure you never miss adding a crucial accomplishment or skill to your professional profiles.
Notion as a Dashboard, a Database and CMS
In this system, Notion acts as the central hub for content management while Super.so transforms Notion content into a beautiful, interactive website. Tally.so is used to integrate responsive forms into the website, improving user engagement and data collection.
Notion + Super.so as a Website Builder
Here’s a sample I did, featuring my Online CV 2.0:
Check out my Online CV on cscalderon.super.site
A traditional CV would include specific information such as "b. 2024, Philippines" which stands for year and place of birth. I omitted this as well as my contact information for privacy reasons.
A Word of Caution: Due to rampant spamming and fishing of information better leave out these details and instead link to a form and a scheduling system as I did with "Message Me" and "Book a Call".
Since I'm editing more than 10 years of work experience and am still at the beginning of building a Portfolio System, I added links to my existing portfolio (I created with Adobe Portfolio and linked to my Behance): charityworks.myportfolio.com
Use Tally.so to Add Forms on your Website
This is something I'll be working on as I continue improving and adding more information to my Online CV.
Conclusion
In conclusion, a dynamic Portfolio System that links your portfolio, CV, and resume, and grows with your career, is the future of personal branding. It offers numerous benefits including simplified management, automatic updates, and a constantly evolving representation of your professional journey. As this system evolves, it promises to be a game-changer in how we manage our professional identities.
