Brand New System

Updated: Apr 9

My desktop workstation is a laptop, an 8 year old MacBook Pro
Image from Unsplash, not my actual workstation, but my laptop looks the same as above.

For a time, I worked with a limited workstation after my laptop broke down. See The Smartphone Workstation (to be published).

My New Old Trusty Laptop

is a Macbook Pro Late 2015, 15" model. Before it broke, I installed the latest Mac OS I could install it with which is Mac OS Monterey. I had only 256 Gigabyte storage and have relied on external storage devices to store big files for this highly demanding high capacity storage for my multimedia design career.

A Refreshed Refurbished State

Someone in the community helped, and recommended their "IT Guy" to fix it. He said he never worked on or repaired a Macbook before, but he did an amazing job. I encouraged him to document = take pictures of his work: of my computer's before and after, which he also cleaned, and added a 1 TB Crucial storage which he recommended to fix and upgrade my system, my computer. So, even though it's now tagged vintage by the manufacturer, I now have an even more capable and dare I say a more powerful workstation than I had before.

One thing I learned from my new IT Guy:

  1. It is not good to use your storage drive to the fullest.

    1. So, set limits so that you don't max out your hard disk to 100%. Add an allowance of 20% or more. Don't know how to do it? Ask your IT Guy... or if you don't have one, reach out and I'll recommend my IT Guy!
